Hey guys!
So you know I’ve been working on my MR2 for awhile. I’m thinking about trading in for another car. I need some advice since it comes down to these two cars.
1988 Honda CRX Si
230,000 Miles
Well maintained
No rust
Runs
Rebuilt Title
1984 Toyota Corrolla SR5
180,000 miles
Hole in floor pan that needs to be welded.
New Engine (4AC)
Some rust in the back area
Doesnt start due to electrical problems. The owner says the spark is “low”. The car just cranks. Accs work.
Pic related is the Corolla.

Tough call. If you’re comfortable with doing the necessary repairs to the Corolla, I’d flip a coin.

While I wouldn’t drop my MR2 for either of these, I’d probably take the Corolla if I already had a daily.

Yeah, if it’s not in even decent condition, it’s probably worth flogging off. MR2s are the worst for doing your own work, and even worse for paying someone to do it for you.

There’s a LOT of work you’ll have to do to get the Corolla anywhere near as fun/fast/working as well as the CRX.
If you do get the AE86, the first thing I’d probably do is pull the engine and start looking for something that A: runs, and B: isn’t slow as hell. It’d be a good opportunity to get under the car (or get it up on a rack), and address any rust issues that the PO might not be aware of. Check the area under the master cylinder, especialy the rail that the engine mounts are on and the rear shock mounts.
